About Us
Cary on Bikes is a nonprofit community organization that advocates for people who travel by bicycle and on foot in and around Cary, North Carolina.
Our mission is to promote the interests of people who travel by bicycle and on foot in Cary and between Cary and surrounding communities. Our advocacy activities include community engagement, education, and events to promote the safety, convenience, comfort, affordability, and accessibility of bicycling and walking for people of all ages and abilities.
Our Vision
We envision a Cary where bicycling and walking are safe, natural, and accessible for everyone.
Accessibility, Livability & Affordability
We envision a Cary where anyone can access their essential needs by bicycling or walking, and where car ownership and use is a choice rather than a requirement for basic living.
Family-Friendliness
We envision a Cary that supports family members bicycling and walking places together, and where their choice to do so is considered normal rather than unusual.
Autonomy
We envision a Cary where children commonly bike and walk to local schools, shops, and parks, and where this independence contributes to their character development as they grow into resilient, self-sufficient adults.
Senior Autonomy
We envision a Cary where seniors can age in-place and stay independent, healthy, and engaged in their community by walking and bicycling.
Health & Safety
We envision a Cary where our public infrastructure contributes to public health, and where safety for all members of the public is prioritized in the design, maintenance, policing, and use of public facilities.
Comfort, Civility & Community
We envision a Cary where our public streets are spaces that are comfortable and well-suited to human beings, encourage civil interaction and cooperation between users, and bring people together.
